This measure on the Los Angeles County ballot Nov. 2nd would raise the county sales tax by one-half cent to pay for expanded law enforcement. LAPD Chief William Bratton argues in favor of the measure; former State Senator Tom Hayden argues against it.

Prop 69 would require the collection of DNA from convicted felons and those arrested for rape and murder. Bruce Harrington, sponsor of the Prop. 69 Initiative, debates Maya Harris, director of the No on 69 campaign.

Props. 60 and 62 - Talk of the City - October 19, 2004
Prop. 60 would keep the current primary system in place, while Prop. 62 would change it so that the top two vote getters in a primary would move on to a runoff, regardless of their party affiliation. Arguing against Prop. 60 and in favor of Prop. 62 is Garry South, board co-chair for Californians for an Open Primary, and arguing for Prop. 60 and against Prop. 62 is Shawn Steel, co-founder of the Gray Davis Recall and director of the California Club for Growth.

Prop. 69 - Talk of the City - October 19, 2004
Lisa Kahn, head of the LA County DA's forensic science department, argues in favor of Prop. 69, which would require the collection of DNA from convicted felons and those arrested for rape and murder. Ramona Ripston, executive director of the Southern California ACLU, argues against the measure.

Prop. 63 - AirTalk - October 18, 2004
Prop. 63 would impose an additional 1% on the income tax of those making more than $1 million a year. Those funds would help expand services for the mentally ill. Arguing in favor of the initiative is one of its authors, Assemblyman Darrell Steinberg, and arguing against it is David Yow, spokesman for the No on 63 campaign.
